The Chambre des notaires provides university scholarships for programs related to the notary profession and to teaching in the field.
The aim of this program is to promote the notary profession and the training for its members by making it easier to access master’s and doctoral studies for notaries whose application demonstrates excellence and an interest in disseminating knowledge. The program comprises two streams:
One supports notaries interested in an academic career
The other encourages notaries to specialize with a view to sharing their knowledge with the notary community

When admission is related to a gateway between two programs or when courses are credited (e.g., between the graduate diploma in Taxation and the master’s degree in Taxation), the maximum time limit starts at registration for the first program and the amount allocated will be reduced by any amounts paid as part of the Graduate Scholarship Program for the first program.
Decision: Decisions on scholarship programs are final and not subject to appeal. There is no review procedure. The Ordre reserves the right to modify, without prior notice, the number and value of scholarships, as well as the rules relating to each of its current scholarship programs.
Be registered on the Order’s roll or about to be registered, in which case the candidate must have completed at least 42 credits in the Master of Laws in Notarial Law program.
Has never been the subject of a disciplinary sanction or incident likely to impact the honour and dignity of the notary profession.
Submit your financial assistance application no later than within the year of having registered for the eligible study program and send in the required documents.
Not have submitted a financial assistance application to the Graduate Scholarship Program that was rejected, unless the Committee had authorized the candidate to submit a second application in its decision.
Respect the maximum time limit for completing the degree or diploma (see explanation table).
Consent to:
Remain a notary for 10 years after obtaining the degree or diploma.
If candidate: become a notary within two years of the end of earning the Master of Laws in Notarial Law.
Produce a written piece on the law studied and authorize it to be published in the Order’s media.
Participate in Graduate Scholarship Program visibility efforts.
Mention the Chambre’s financial assistance in a publication arising from the funded studies.
Consent to:
Submit to a selection interview.
Deliver a lecture, at the request of the Chambre des notaires, as part of the Order’s professional development program.

Analysis of applications and selection interview
The selection panel will meet with candidates via Teams in February 2025.
Studies abroad
An additional scholarship of $5,000 for a master’s degree or $15,000 for a PhD may be awarded when studies are completed abroad.
The term abroad means any destination outside Quebec, excluding the Ottawa Area. The stay abroad must be at least for one full semester.
Applications will be evaluated by the Order based on academic excellence.

The application must be submitted by January 6, 2025 at 11:59 pm.
Remittance and payment
A first payment is made when the studies begin.
A progress report on your program and updated transcripts may be required for subsequent payments.
A tax slip will be issued.
Suspension of studies
A suspension of studies is allowed when this is due to circumstances beyond the control of the candidate, such as a critical illness requiring the student to suspend their studies. Candidates who suspend their studies due to parental leave are also eligible for a 12-month extension.

Repayment of amounts
In the event of an unauthorized suspension, withdrawal or academic failure or non-compliance with any of the scholarship program conditions, the scholarship holder must repay amounts already paid to them, upon request.
